Roland Garros (Saint-Denis, Reunion, October 6, 1888 - Ardennes, October 5, 1918) was a pioneer of French aviation.

He passed to posterity for having achieved, on September 23, 1913, the first crossing through the Mediterranean in 5 hours and 53 minutes aboard his Morane-Saulnier G, departing Fréjus, France and ending the journey in Bizerte ( current Tunisia), this despite the fact that the engine of his aircraft suffered a breakdown in Corsica and that he had 5 liters of gasoline left when he landed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_Garros_(aviator)
